5th November

5th November: Bonfire Night , a.k.a. Guy Fawkes Day.

It is celebrated in the UK, and in other countries that were formerly part of the British
empire, with fireworks , parades and bonfires with ragdolls which are burnt on the fire.
But, who was Guy Fawkes ?

Guy Fawkes was the man that tried and failed to kill the king James Iand blow up the Houses of Parliament in the 16th century. Many years later, a comic and a movie called V for Vendetta used the image of Guy Fawkes.
The mask is also connected with the online hacktivist movement Anonymous, famous for its anti-establishment protests.
