International Day of the Girl Child

 


The International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated annually on 11th October

This day is designated to eliminate gender-based challenges that little girls face around the world, including child marriages, poor learning opportunities, violence, and discrimination.

The theme this year is: DIGITAL GENERATION.OUR GENERATION. The pandemic has made the world sit in front of a screen for learning and working. However, we can’t forget that around 2.2 million people around the globe still do not have internet connections.

Remembrance Day is on November 11th . This is a very special day because it marks the end of World War One in 1918 . The war officially ended at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month – that means 11:00 a.m. on November 11th.  Every year British people come together to remember those who died in wars across the world. People wear red poppies on their clothes.The red poppy became a symbol of Remembrance Day because they grew on the battlefields.

                                                                       5 th November : Bonfire Night , a.k.a. Guy Fawkes Day. It is celebrated in the UK, and in other countries that were formerly part of the British empire, with f ireworks , parades and bonfires with ragdolls which are burnt on the fire. But, who was Guy Fawkes ?  Guy Fawkes was the man that tried and failed to kill the king  James Iand blow up the Houses of Parliament in the 16th century. Many years later, a comic and a movie called V for Vendetta used the image of Guy Fawkes.  The mask is also connected with the online hacktivist movement Anonymous, famous for i ts anti-establishment protests.                                   Watch th...
