Stop violence against women

 

The United Nations Assembly has designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Historically, the date is based on the date of the 1960 assassination of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic; the killings were ordered by Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo(1930–1961)




A few years ago, Antonio Banderas spoke out against violence against women .

This year Scotland police has launched a campaign video to tackel sexual violence.

Remembrance Day is on November 11th . This is a very special day because it marks the end of World War One in 1918 . The war officially ended at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month – that means 11:00 a.m. on November 11th.  Every year British people come together to remember those who died in wars across the world. People wear red poppies on their clothes.The red poppy became a symbol of Remembrance Day because they grew on the battlefields.

                                                                       5 th November : Bonfire Night , a.k.a. Guy Fawkes Day. It is celebrated in the UK, and in other countries that were formerly part of the British empire, with f ireworks , parades and bonfires with ragdolls which are burnt on the fire. But, who was Guy Fawkes ?  Guy Fawkes was the man that tried and failed to kill the king  James Iand blow up the Houses of Parliament in the 16th century. Many years later, a comic and a movie called V for Vendetta used the image of Guy Fawkes.  The mask is also connected with the online hacktivist movement Anonymous, famous for i ts anti-establishment protests.                                   Watch th...
