International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social,economic, cultural and political achievements of women.The theme for International Women’s Day, 8 March  2025 is: “Accelerate Action”.

“Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge gender equality".

Yes, we can accelerate action for gender equality.


The seeds for this celebration were planted in 1908, when 15,000
women marched through New York demanding shorter working hours,better pay and the right to vote.During the strike the women carried signs with the words: “We want bread, and roses, too”, from the poem "Bread and Roses", written by the American poet James Oppenheim .


                                Some useful vocabulary:


Empowerment – Helping people feel strong and confident.
Equality – Treating everyone the same.
Feminism – Believing in equal rights for all genders.
Inclusion – Making sure everyone feels welcome.
Bias – Unfair opinions about people.
Stereotype – A simple idea about a group that isn’t always true.
Resilience – Staying strong even when things are tough.
Leadership – Guiding and inspiring others.
Solidarity – Standing up for and supporting others.

POPPY DAY

Remembrance Day is on November 11th . This is a very special day because it marks the end of World War One in 1918 . The war officially ended at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month – that means 11:00 a.m. on November 11th.  Every year British people come together to remember those who died in wars across the world. People wear red poppies on their clothes.The red poppy became a symbol of Remembrance Day because they grew on the battlefields.
