PANCAKE DAY
Time for freixós and pancakes
Pancake Day: March 4th 2025
Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is a special day in the UK before Lent (=Cuaresma) begins. Long ago, people made pancakes to use up eggs, milk, and sugar before fasting. Today, families and friends enjoy making and eating pancakes with toppings like sugar, lemon, or chocolate. Some towns have fun pancake races, where people run while flipping pancakes in a pan!
Ingredients:
1 cup (120g) flour
1 cup (250ml) milk
1 egg
1 tbsp sugar (optional)
A pinch of salt
1 tbsp butter (for cooking)
Steps:
Mix – In a bowl, whisk the flour, milk, egg, sugar, and salt until smooth.
Heat – Put a little butter in a pan on medium heat.
Cook – Pour a little batter into the pan. Cook for about 1-2 minutes until bubbles form, then flip and cook for 1 more minute.
Serve – Add toppings like sugar, lemon, chocolate, or fruit. Enjoy!
